John Louis Lucaites is the Professor of Rhetoric and Culture in the Department of Communication and Culture at Indiana University. His research concerns the general relationship between rhetoric and social/political theory and seeks to contribute in particular to the critique and reconstruction of liberal-democratic public culture in contemporary late-modern society. With Robert Hariman, he is the author of The Public Image: Photography and Civic Spectatorship, 2016. His book, No Caption Needed: Photojournalism, Public Culture, and Liberal Democracy (Chicago, 2007), co-authored with Robert Hariman, has led to the development of a daily blog on photojournalism as a public art titled nocaptionneeded.com. He is also a contributing editor at BagNEWSnotes.com.
